In our new “Meet Our Team” series, we’ll be sharing interviews with members of the Net Atlantic staff so you can get to know us a little better. First up is Wes Owen, our VP of Technology Operations!
Read on to learn more about Wes and what makes him tick.
What device do you usually check your emails on?
My computer at work, otherwise my phone.
What was the name of your first email account?
Does BBS count? Does anyone even know what that is anymore? I was a member of many local BBS’s (Bulletin Board Systems) back in the day. That was before the Internet really took off. My first internet email address was firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com, or something like that. I later got a firstname.lastname@example.org shell account – where you had to type everything to see the Internet.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
While time travel or telepathy sound like they would be cool, I wouldn’t trust myself with that. I would love the ability to slow down time.
If you were an email subject line, what would it be?
Subject line isn’t as important as the IP & Domain reputation, DKIM, SPF, DMARC, and other headers of the email. I don’t know –I’m in charge of tech and delivery. I make sure that what you send goes out and gets to the inbox.
What was your first job?
Funny you should ask. Newspaper delivery. Who knew that nearly 30 years later I would still be in publishing and delivery?!
One fun fact about you:
I built my first computer at age 14.
One thing I can’t live without:
Chocolate. While you wouldn’t know it by looking at me, but I’m a huge chocoholic and choco-snob.
What do you like best about working at Net Atlantic?
I get to do what I love, work with a bunch of cool people, and be challenged in my job. It’s great working at a company where the results of what you do can be seen by all. At a larger company, it isn’t so evident.
Bonus fun fact:
Wes has been with the company since 1996, when he was hired as an intern at age 16!
Stay tuned for our next interview, coming soon!
